Your teeth are integral part of your smile, and if they are stained or discolored this will affect your appearance. This is the major reason why teeth whitening procedures have gained tremendous popularity amongst Americans, with over 30% of them tried or interested in tooth bleaching. Teeth whitening can work wonders for many people, and this is a proven fact. We are born with teeth, which are not stained and have beautiful natural color. As we grow older the teeth get stains and discolor from various foods, drinks, certain drugs and external damages. Some foods, and beverages like coffee, tea, red wine, and nicotine have pigments that stuck in the tooth enamel, which causes stains and discoloration.
There are various types of teeth whiteners that are used by both individuals at home and dentists in professional offices. In-office systems use proprietary technology and are all used on the similar method of light activated whitening. At-home whitening methods are different in that they do not use any type of technology. All teeth whitening methods are provided by many different companies, with each providing a different level of whitening power.
As with anything else some people’ teeth stain easily, while others are not prone to stain. Aging also affects the color and appearance of your teeth. Whitening can be highly successful or it might not work at all, depending on what caused the discoloration and/or the staining of your teeth. If your teeth have been stained from foods and/or beverages or they have been discolored due to advancing age, chances are that a teeth whitening procedure will have success. Nicotine stains on the other hand are very hard to remove. Another example in which tooth bleaching might not be successful is when your natural teeth color has changed due to medications or damage to the tooth.
Teeth Whiteners
1. Low-concentration gel. This type of gel is less concentrated and is usually used in at-home kits. These kits use the same methods as high-concentrated gels, but because the amount of carbamide peroxide is lower in this gel, whitening of the teeth can take between 5 and 14 days.
2. High-concentration Bleaching Agent. Professional teeth whitening kits use stronger bleaching agent compared to the over-the-counter whitening kits. They work the same way as the inexpensive at-home teeth whiteners, however they are more effective because of the high concentration of the bleaching agent.
3. Laser Teeth Whitening. The laser teeth whitening procedures are performed in dental offices. These procedures usually use ultraviolet rays to speed up the bleaching process. Laser teeth whitening is one of the fastest and most effecting bleaching methods.
